Open questions for the P. A. & B.O.C.C.

Below are questions submitted to our website by members of the public that we believe are more appropriately answered by the Prosecuting Attorney and/or the Board of County Commissioners. These questions are presented here in a neutral form for transparency and public discussion. We do not represent that any underlying claim is true, and we will gladly publish any response received from the Prosecuting Attorney or the BOCC.
  1. Would the Prosecuting Attorney support a code revision that expressly clarifies the County’s intent regarding farmland protection and residential building rights on 20-acre parcels?
  2. Can the Prosecuting Attorney and the BOCC explain the circumstances surrounding the Prosecuting Attorney’s compensation at the beginning of his term, including whether any related budget adjustments affected other County departments?
  3. Can the Prosecuting Attorney provide the data and case information supporting public statements about the number of defendants sent to prison and any claimed increase in prosecution results?
  4. During the campaign, what goals were stated regarding jury trials, and how do actual trial results compare to those statements?
  5. Can the Prosecuting Attorney explain the division of responsibilities within the office, including the role of the Chief Deputy Prosecutor and the related cost to taxpayers?
  6. Can the Prosecuting Attorney clarify the residence he relied upon when filing to run for office and explain why he believes it satisfied the legal requirements?
  7. Did the Prosecuting Attorney reside in Washington County at the time he ran for office, and if so, what facts support that position?
  8. Does the Prosecuting Attorney have any personal, financial, or property-related interests that could be affected by the County’s interpretation of farmland division or building-right policies?
  9. Can the Prosecuting Attorney explain the status and handling of the small business embezzlement matter that has been discussed in the community, including why it was referred to another county?
